A Canadian with Italian origins, a saxophonist with exceptional qualities, a greatly appreciated soloist in the jazz scene, a highly esteemed professional at international levels and extraordinary teacher, Robert Bonisolo studied music at Berklee College of Music and The Banff School of Fine Arts. In 1987 he won the “Canadian Rising Star Award” and the “American Rising Star Award”. Robert Bonisolo has studied and performed with some of the best musicians in the world, including Joe Viola, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Lovano, John La Porta, George Garzone, Steve Coleman, John Abercrombie, David Liebman, Richie Bierach, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland and Pat LaBarbera. He has recorded many CDs as guest and sideman; in 2009 his debut record as a leader with the CD “Open The Cage” (Almar). Robert Bonisolo has been Professor of saxophone at the Conservatoire de Lausanne since 2009 and he currently also professor at the Conservatorio Bonporti in Trento.
